Philadelphia Suburban Hires New President for Its Largest Operating Subsidiary; Kyriss to replace retiring Coulter after 42 yearsBRYN MAWR, Pa., Feb 4, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Philadelphia Suburban Corporation (NYSE:PSC) Chairman Nicholas DeBenedictis announced today that Karl M. Kyriss will become the new president of its largest operating subsidiary, Pennsylvania Suburban Water Company (PSW), effective March 10 replacing Morrison Coulter who will be retiring from the company in June, after 42 years of service.
Kyriss, a professional engineer with 30 years of water and wastewater utility experience, comes to PSW from American Water Works Company, which announced its purchase by the large German multi-utility conglomerate, RWE, in January 2003.
Kyriss spent the last two years at American as Vice President, Operations, Northeast Region, which serves 435,000 customers (1.3 million people). Kyriss joined American in 1993 as director, engineering design--a position he held until being promoted to Vice President, Operations for the company's second largest operating division, New Jersey American Water Company.
He is no stranger to PSW having served as Manager, Treatment and Quality Control for the company between 1981 and 1989.

As President, PSW, Kyriss will take charge of the largest operating subsidiary of the nation's largest U.S.-based investor-owned water utility, with responsibility for distribution, production, water treatment and water quality, water resources, maintenance and construction. PSW provides water to more than 1.3 million residents throughout southeastern, northern and central Pennsylvania.
Kyriss has a B.S. in chemical engineering and an M.S. in chemical and biochemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and is professional engineer in Pennsylvania. His professional associations include the American Water Works Association and the Water Works Operators Association of Pennsylvania.
