Includes $6.6 million to replace aging water infrastructure

HAMILTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aqua New Jersey (Aqua) today announced that the company is approaching the completion of its $13 million 2014 infrastructure improvement program, which included the replacement of 18,370 feet—approximately 3.5 miles—of water mains among other components.

In most cases, old smaller diameter cast iron main was replaced with new, larger 8-inch ductile iron main, which is the material of choice for water mains in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country. Some of the larger main replacements that have been or will be completed as part of Aqua's program are listed below.

Mercer County

• The $262,500 replacement of 1,500 feet of 10-inch cement main, circa 1955, with new 12-inch cast iron main on Mercer Street between Cubberly Avenue and Flock Road in Hamilton Township.
• The $105,000 replacement of 600 feet of 4-inch cast iron main, circa 1955, with 8-inch ductile iron main on Miry Brook Road between Shawnee Drive and Link Lane in Hamilton Township.
• The $210,000 replacement of 1,200 feet of 4-inch cast iron main, circa 1946, with new 8-inch ductile iron main on Deerwood Drive between Nottingham Way and Route 33 in Hamilton Township.

Camden County

• The $262,500 replacement of 1,500 feet of 6-inch cast iron main, circa 1909, with new 12-inch ductile iron main Church Street between Route 168 and Railroad Avenue in Gloucester Township.
• The $140,000 replacement of 800 feet of 6-inch cast iron main from 1971 with new 9-inch ductile iron main on all of Taranto Avenue in Gloucester Township.
• A $210,000 project to replace 1,200 feet of 4-inch plastic water main with new 8-inch ductile iron main on Noble Road between Presidential Drive and King Road in Gloucester Township.
• The $437,500 replacement of 2,500 feet of old 4-inch plastic from 1973 with new 8-inch high density polyethylene plastic main in the LaCascata Development in Gloucester Township.

Warren County

• The $147,000 replacement of 840 feet of 4-inch cast iron main with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe on Prospect Street in Phillipsburg.
• The $105,000 replacement of 600 feet of 4-inch cast iron main with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe on Prospect Street in Phillipsburg.
• The $22,000 replacement of 2,080 feet of 6-inch main, circa 1886, with 8-inch ductile iron main on Bullman Street between Chambers and Raymond streets in Phillipsburg.
• The $172,500 replacement of 1,150 feet of 4-inch cast iron main, circa 1886, with 8-inch ductile iron main on Sitgreaves Street between Abbot and McKeen streets in Phillipsburg.

Sussex County

• The $875,000 replacement of 5,000 feet of 2-, 4- and 6-inch plastic main installed in the 1960s with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe on Cedar Ridge Drive in Vernon Township.

In addition to the main replacements, Aqua also spent $1.4 million on various upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant in Woolwich Township, Gloucester County and $750,000 for electrical upgrades to several treatment facilities in its Northern Division.
