Stan Szczygiel

Stan Szczygiel is senior vice president, finance and treasurer for Essential Utilities, Inc. (NYSE: WTRG), one of the largest publicly traded water, wastewater and natural gas providers in the U.S., serving approximately 5 million people across 10 states. He is responsible for the company’s financial operations as well as accounts payable, payroll and treasury operations. In his role, Szczygiel oversees approximately $10.8 billion in assets and a projected U.S. regulated rate base of more than $7.2 billion, with approximately 70 percent in water and wastewater and 30 percent in natural gas.  

Professional History

Szczygiel joined Aqua in 2006 as the controller for its southern operations and was later promoted to director of planning, vice president of finance and most recently SVP, finance and treasurer.

Prior to joining Aqua, Szczygiel held several senior financial management positions including chief financial officer of Apogee Inc., Abbey Home Healthcare, Xyan, Inc. and Prescient Systems, Inc. He also spent four years on the audit staff at public accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC).

Szczygiel has extensive experience with acquisitions and mergers, both at Essential and previous employers including Exxon, Foster Management Companies and NovaCare.

Education

Szczygiel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Arizona, and an M.B.A. in finance from Drexel University. He is a certified public accountant in Pennsylvania.
