Christopher Womack is a member of the board of directors for Essential Utilities, Inc. (NYSE: WTRG). Upon closing of Peoples, Essential will become one of the largest publicly traded water, wastewater and natural gas providers in the U.S., serving approximately 5 million people across 10 states.
Womack has served as president, external affairs for Southern Company, a leading American gas and electric utility holding company based in Atlanta, Ga., since December 2008. He has worked in various executive leadership positions at Southern Company since 1988, including as executive vice president of Georgia Power Company from March 2006 to December 2008; senior vice president of fossil and hydro power, Georgia Power Company from December 2001 to March 2006; and senior vice president of Human Resources from March 1998 to December 2001. From 1979 to 1987 he served as a legislative aide in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Womack serves on the executive compensation committee and corporate governance committee of the board.
